The Middle-earth College AU meme

The Middle-earth College Life AU meme

Congrats, you've been accepted to college / university! Or maybe you work there? Maybe you're even the President or a Dean of studies! Either way - there's classes to attend or teach, parties to go to, and fraternities/sororities to belong to. Cheer for the sports team, and don't forget about extra curricular activities.

1. Comment with a character, with a sentence or two to explain how they fit into this AU
2. Format is flexible! Action, Phones, IMs, etc. (It's a meme, do what is most fun for you!)
3. ???
4. Profit.

Shire institute of Culinary Arts:
Aspiring chefs, look no further. A wide variety of specialty degrees are available, but it's best known for their potato program. Dorms are said to be "cozy", but the meal plan is next to none. The typical "freshman 15" here is expanded to the "freshman 30," but no one seems to mind.

Rivendell University and Teaching Hospital:
You might know that Rivendell's medical program it top notch, but you might not know that it also has a robust music program as well. It boasts a diverse student body and easy admittance process. The dorms are next to none, with full meal plan, entertainment, and laundry service.

University of Caras Galadhon:
This university is so exclusive, that only students and staff know how to even get to the campus. Needless to say, their athletic teams never have home games. Extracurricular activities include boating and archery. All dorms begin on the 10th floor.

Woodland U:
Literally spelled Woodland "U" because half their applicants can't spell "university." All students are required to be on one of the athletics teams. Known for its party scene. Their rival is the nearby Erebor Trade School. It's motto is "We will endure" because many of it's students stay much longer than the usual four year plan.

Erebor Trade School:
Anyone hoping to become a craftsman or jeweler aspires admittance to this school. Tuition used to be rather high before a massive campus fire and a change of administration. Remodeling is ongoing. Erebor encourages drinking, even though half its students are miners.

Gondor Military Academy:
Used to be a more prestigious institution until the neighborhood appeal changed by the nearby Mt. Doom's expansion and construction. Recently subject to rumors about the president losing touch with the needs of the students.

Rohan Agricultural College:
Probably the smallest and least expensive school in Middle-earth. Sister school to Gondor Military Academy, and known for its equestrian program and rural location. The dorms and meal plans here are said to be lacking.

Mt Doom College:
Recently had a resurgence in numbers, Mt. Doom is known for its aggressive recruiting policy and strict dress code. Now has a campus at Orthanc, which used to be an independent institution.

Two Trees Seminary:
This university can boast that it's faculty are all at the top of their fields. Known for it's idyllic location, Two Trees has a very strict moral code, but most students who enroll never leave campus. The Dormitory is located in the building simply known as "The Halls."

Then I dare not offer a friendly competition, as we should keep our secrets for the match.

[Legolas glances back at the classroom behind him before turning back to Haldir.]

History and Culture of Doriath. I find it dull, but my father insists.

Nonsense. A friendly competition is always in order. Not team against team for that would spoil the surprise, but you against I. Your skill isn't unknown, so what possible secrets could you be hiding for the official match?

My brother is taking a class similar to that, but I managed to skip it myself. There are other areas of history which are far more interesting, but I suppose you do have to keep your illustrious father happy.

[He pauses to consider, it's not like it was easy for Legolas to say no to archery.]

Then I cannot refuse. I am free this afternoon, if you would like to meet me at the range.

[He laughs softly at the other subject.]

A difficult task indeed, to keep my father happy. I must do what I can, though I feel the best way to begin is to hand him a full wineglass.

I would like that very much. There is nothing better than archery to clear one's mind of the bothersome history and culture of Doriath. [he smiles] And practice will always do us both good.

Then I will reserve time at the range before my next class.

[Pause.]

It saddens me to think that our study abroad program was cut. I wanted very much to attend CGU for a semester, if I could. I know your school does not take on outside students easily, but I had hoped to petition for it.

I have the feeling that if CGU's doors were to open again for a few study abroad students, you would be among the first to know. If not by my own invitation but from the dean herself. The reputation of a few students travels a long way, and even she knowss of them.
