The Middle-earth College Life AU meme

Congrats, you've been accepted to college / university! Or maybe you work there? Maybe you're even the President or a Dean of studies! Either way - there's classes to attend or teach, parties to go to, and fraternities/sororities to belong to. Cheer for the sports team, and don't forget about extra curricular activities.

Shire institute of Culinary Arts: Aspiring chefs, look no further. A wide variety of specialty degrees are available, but it's best known for their potato program. Dorms are said to be "cozy", but the meal plan is next to none. The typical "freshman 15" here is expanded to the "freshman 30," but no one seems to mind.	Rivendell University and Teaching Hospital: You might know that Rivendell's medical program it top notch, but you might not know that it also has a robust music program as well. It boasts a diverse student body and easy admittance process. The dorms are next to none, with full meal plan, entertainment, and laundry service.	University of Caras Galadhon: This university is so exclusive, that only students and staff know how to even get to the campus. Needless to say, their athletic teams never have home games. Extracurricular activities include boating and archery. All dorms begin on the 10th floor.
Woodland U: Literally spelled Woodland "U" because half their applicants can't spell "university." All students are required to be on one of the athletics teams. Known for its party scene. Their rival is the nearby Erebor Trade School. It's motto is "We will endure" because many of it's students stay much longer than the usual four year plan.	Erebor Trade School: Anyone hoping to become a craftsman or jeweler aspires admittance to this school. Tuition used to be rather high before a massive campus fire and a change of administration. Remodeling is ongoing. Erebor encourages drinking, even though half its students are miners.	Gondor Military Academy: Used to be a more prestigious institution until the neighborhood appeal changed by the nearby Mt. Doom's expansion and construction. Recently subject to rumors about the president losing touch with the needs of the students.
Rohan Agricultural College: Probably the smallest and least expensive school in Middle-earth. Sister school to Gondor Military Academy, and known for its equestrian program and rural location. The dorms and meal plans here are said to be lacking.	Mt Doom College: Recently had a resurgence in numbers, Mt. Doom is known for its aggressive recruiting policy and strict dress code. Now has a campus at Orthanc, which used to be an independent institution.	Two Trees Seminary: This university can boast that it's faculty are all at the top of their fields. Known for it's idyllic location, Two Trees has a very strict moral code, but most students who enroll never leave campus. The Dormitory is located in the building simply known as "The Halls."

[Fingon nods. It's a gold ring with "Findekáno" engraved on it. There's a small ruby set in the middle surrounded by sapphires.]

His new prosthetic had just been finished a few weeks before he proposed. I didn't think he'd be able to make something so delicate yet but he said he wasn't going to make anything until after he made the ring.

He has a working prosthetic? That's good. I know Kurvo wanted to make him one but... [ shrug ]

Oh, that's good - I know that he missed Azhagal a lot - he needs more dwarven friends, they're good for him.

[ tease and then they turn a familiar corner and he goes very quiet and still ]

I'm not sure there isn't a surface in my old apartment that we didn't have sex on.

[They pull into Maedhros's driveway. The house is empty]

Ew, TMI cousin. [ He protests half-heartedly but he's too busy staring at the driveway. He's gone all tense again, as if thinking about running ]

[Fingon reaches over and takes Maglor's hand]

Relax, cousin. You're safe now.

[ He flinches but keeps staring at the house ]

Nyelo will be angry.

No. It would not be better if you stayed lost. What do you think would happen when I told them that I found you but I let you get away? They would hunt you down and drag you home, without the chance to prepare yourself for the onslaught. You need to come home, Makalaurë.

[ he stares for a long time, and the hand in Fingon's trembles before he nods slowly ]

Alright. I ... I suppose I had better then. I don't... want to inconvience everyone to come looking.

We've been looking long before now. It would just be harder to hide this time.

[Fingon gets out first and waits calmly for Maglor to follow suit]

[ It takes a while, but eventually he's standing on the driveway, chewing his lower lip and wringing his hands as if he were getting ready for a major performance, rather than coming home to see the family he has missed as badly as they missed him ]

I... do any of them... know? [ that you found me? ]

How could they? I haven't called anyone since I found you.

[He holds his hand out to Maglor]

[ Another long wavering pause and then he nods and takes Fingon's hand ]

Do you have to call them now? [ almost pleading for a no ]

I said I wouldn't until you were showered and fed and a little more relaxed.

[Fingon guides Maglor into the house. It's a typical Noldor house, with half-finished crafts everywhere and a lots of open space. There's also three cats asleep on the sofa]

Welcome home.

[ It is familiar-not-familiar and Maglor can see all the touches which are uniquely Maedhros just as surely as he can see those parts that are Fingon and he smiles, shy and wondering ]

Home [ he whispers softly, as if testing the word out ]

You have cats. [ he blinks ] When did you become a Cat Lady.

They adopted us. The silver-and-black is Starlight, the calico is Ember, and the pure white is Snowfall.

Uh huh. [ Amusement peeking back out again ] I am sure they adopted you. Yep. Has nothing to do with the way neither you nor my brother could refuse small innocent things that need help. Nope.
