The Middle-earth College Life AU meme

Congrats, you've been accepted to college / university! Or maybe you work there? Maybe you're even the President or a Dean of studies! Either way - there's classes to attend or teach, parties to go to, and fraternities/sororities to belong to. Cheer for the sports team, and don't forget about extra curricular activities.

Shire institute of Culinary Arts: Aspiring chefs, look no further. A wide variety of specialty degrees are available, but it's best known for their potato program. Dorms are said to be "cozy", but the meal plan is next to none. The typical "freshman 15" here is expanded to the "freshman 30," but no one seems to mind.	Rivendell University and Teaching Hospital: You might know that Rivendell's medical program it top notch, but you might not know that it also has a robust music program as well. It boasts a diverse student body and easy admittance process. The dorms are next to none, with full meal plan, entertainment, and laundry service.	University of Caras Galadhon: This university is so exclusive, that only students and staff know how to even get to the campus. Needless to say, their athletic teams never have home games. Extracurricular activities include boating and archery. All dorms begin on the 10th floor.
Woodland U: Literally spelled Woodland "U" because half their applicants can't spell "university." All students are required to be on one of the athletics teams. Known for its party scene. Their rival is the nearby Erebor Trade School. It's motto is "We will endure" because many of it's students stay much longer than the usual four year plan.	Erebor Trade School: Anyone hoping to become a craftsman or jeweler aspires admittance to this school. Tuition used to be rather high before a massive campus fire and a change of administration. Remodeling is ongoing. Erebor encourages drinking, even though half its students are miners.	Gondor Military Academy: Used to be a more prestigious institution until the neighborhood appeal changed by the nearby Mt. Doom's expansion and construction. Recently subject to rumors about the president losing touch with the needs of the students.
Rohan Agricultural College: Probably the smallest and least expensive school in Middle-earth. Sister school to Gondor Military Academy, and known for its equestrian program and rural location. The dorms and meal plans here are said to be lacking.	Mt Doom College: Recently had a resurgence in numbers, Mt. Doom is known for its aggressive recruiting policy and strict dress code. Now has a campus at Orthanc, which used to be an independent institution.	Two Trees Seminary: This university can boast that it's faculty are all at the top of their fields. Known for it's idyllic location, Two Trees has a very strict moral code, but most students who enroll never leave campus. The Dormitory is located in the building simply known as "The Halls."

[ He smiles at her ] Of course, I will have to give the role to the one best suited but you are well on your way there, Celebrian.

Well, I'll do my best then. If only to make sure all this extra effort doesn't go to waste. [And especially since he's going through the trouble of helping her.]

[ He listens critically and nods ] Better, although you were a half tone off on this bar here, see?

[Don't let anyone else know that. Except her and inflate her ego a little.]

[She looks to where he directs her and sings that part again, trying to correct it now rather than going through the entire piece again.]

[ Psh no, he's not telling, it might puff that ego too much! ]

Now... this other part here, see how the song is both a lament but also one of hope? Try and see if you can put some of that emotion into the song - imagine if you were the singer in truth, and not just in play.

[Would it really hurt though?]

I'll try. [It shouldn't be hard, she's a performing arts student after all. She'd been in enough school plays when she was a kid that she'd shown a knack for it. It'll just take her a moment to go over the music again and find the feeling that goes with it.]

[ He will tell her after she gets the part, which he is sure she will ]

Well done! [ he nods approvingly when she's done ] Now all you have to do is remember that when you sing it, eh? And you will wring tears from stone. But that is enough for today, I think.

I have plenty of time to practice to make sure I don't forget at least! I don't think I'll forget though.

No, I am sure you will not. [ He smiles warmly at her and gestures to the door ]

Now, you have missed the usual supper time I believe, but Cook often leaves me something small in the kitchens. Would you care to join me?

[She turns her wrist over, checking the time on her watch. And then groans softly.] I was going to call Elrond and see if he wanted to go out. It's too late now, probably.

[ A soft laugh and he shakes his head ]

Ah, forgive me! I did not realise you had another apointment. Mm, I am sure he will not mind if you are a little late. We could see if we could track him down? If you head off campus, there are still plenty of cafes and such open - it is not that late!

It's not your fault, I got caught up in it. He knows I do that sometimes. [Off campus though...]

I can call him up. You could come with us, my treat since you've been helping me with practicing.

Still, next time warn me, eh? And I will make sure you get out on time.

[ hesitation ]

You are sure I would not be imposing? I would have thought you wanted a chance to catch up with just the two of you...

I'm sure. I can crash at his place after and I'm sure he'd like to meet the person responsible for helping me practice.

Alright, well if you're sure... [ Maglor shrugs and goes to lock his office door ]

I'm sure he knows, in any case. He hired me for this job, you know.

He-

[Pause, looking hard at Maglor.] He what? When did he do that?

[ A shy smile and he offers her his arm as they leave ]

No one else would hire me. I will always be grateful.

[ Which of course does not answer her question at all ]

[Don't think she didn't notice how he avoided answering her question. She won't draw attention back to it yet though and instead loops her arm around his.]

I can't see why.

[ A shrug ]

Let us just say there were a number of significant indiscretions in my youth that have... painted me in such light that most do not trust me any longer.

That doesn't mean you're the same person now as you were then. I'm glad Elrond hired you. [Hmph, some people. Really.]

I would hope not. [ he shrugs wryly ] In truth, I am glad you did not know me, in those days. And I am grateful that he did as well.

I'm glad I know you now and that you're here. And not just because you're helping me with my singing. Not that it hurts.

[ He smiles at her almost shyly ]

So am I. [ I never thought I'd have this chance ] And I am sure the fact that I plan to help you win that part is not hurting at all.
