[Beleg raises one eyebrow at the shameless one in the corner.]

Not quite as good as I was led to believe it was. It could have used a bit more berry liqueur to balance out the taste.

You think so? I shall have to make amends for that, although I might blame others for the final taste. Do you think one bottle or two would be required?

[Beleg takes another sip, rolling the liquid around in his mouth before swallowing.]

Just one bottle. Two will drown out the taste of everything else. Perhaps just a touch of apple wine as well to round it all off.

Ooh, I did not think of that! I know Erestor keeps a few bottles of the apple wine from Harvestmath - I am sure he will not mind me appropriating one.

[ More like, he's already in so deep that pinching wine from Erestor's private store is not likely to make much difference ]

Eh, Lord Erestor is used to it. He will surely not begrudge us a bottle! Particularly not if it improves the taste of the punch!

Somehow I do not think he will be persuaded by that argument, Lord Elrond's son or not.

Lord Erestor learnt long ago that some battles are better him not fighting.

[ Instead he assigns them long patrol for a few weeks in a row or kitchen duty, if he is being particularly nasty ]

And I am sure he will be grateful when he realises how much worse the punch could taste!

He would be far more grateful if you left it alone in the first place.

Of course he does! Why, [ And Elladan leans close with a wicked grin and drops his voice ] tales are still told in Imladris of the time Lord Glorfindel 'lost' Lord Erestor in the outside privy during the height of winter. Lord Glorfindel had to work very hard to get back in Lord Erestor's favour after that!
